About
Since 1898, Consew (Consolidated Sewing Machine Corporation) has been a cornerstone in the sewing industry, providing reliable, high-quality machines that have stood the test of time. What began as a small family-owned business has grown into a globally recognized brand, rooted in innovation, craftsmanship, and a commitment to excellence.
Our story is deeply tied to the Feit family, whose dedication and vision have shaped Consew’s growth over generations. It all began in the 1950s with the Feit Company, a wholesale distributor of parts and accessories for the sewing industry. Although the company initially didn’t sell sewing machines, it established a strong foothold in the industry.
In 1995, Murray Feit took a bold step by acquiring Consew. Recognizing its long and successful history, Murray envisioned taking the company to new heights. Under his leadership, Consew expanded its operations and product offerings, incorporating Unlimited Parts and Supplies, MacPherson Meistergram, US Blindstitch, Chandler and Clinton Industries. Guided by the principle, “The quality goes in before the name goes on” Consew continued to uphold its reputation for excellence.
Consew is best known for its heavy-duty sewing machines, catering to industries like upholstery, auto interiors, tents, and tarps. Yet, our product range is incredibly diverse, with machines engineered to handle everything from leather and canvas to delicate fabrics. This versatility ensures we meet the needs of industries ranging from apparel to technical textiles.
Now in its third generation of family leadership, Consew remains a family business at heart. Brothers David and Michael Feit honor their family’s legacy while bringing their own expertise and innovation to the company. David, a graduate of New York University with a degree in Economics, and Michael, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University, oversee all aspects of Consew’s operations. Their leadership ensures that Consew continues to thrive, blending tradition with forward-thinking strategies.
With offices in New Jersey, Miami, and Los Angeles—and a global distribution network—Consew is equipped to supply and service our customers quickly and efficiently, wherever they are in the world. At the heart of our company is a team that embodies the family values upon which Consew was built. We are committed to building long-term relationships with our clients by providing personalized service and standing firmly behind every product we offer.
As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to the same principles that have guided us for over a century: quality, innovation, and family. We invite you to become a part of the Consew story, confident that our products —and our team—will support your success every step of the way.
History
Origins
Consew’s origins date back to 1898 when it was founded as the Consolidated Sewing Machine Company. From the beginning, the company’s focus was on providing industrial sewing machines designed for heavy-duty use. Catering to the growing demands of garment factories and other industrial settings, Consew quickly established a reputation for durability and reliability.
Early Growth and Innovation
Throughout the early 20th century, Consew expanded its product line to meet the needs of a booming garment and textile industry. The company introduced innovative technologies, including automatic features that improved precision and efficiency. These advancements helped Consew become a trusted name in the sewing machine industry, known for producing robust machines suited for a variety of applications.
Post-War Expansion
The post-World War II era brought significant changes to the sewing industry. With a surge in demand for both home and industrial sewing machines, Consew diversified its product range. The company introduced lighter, versatile models for household use while continuing to produce heavy-duty machines for industrial applications. This period also marked a shift in manufacturing processes, allowing Consew to create faster, more efficient equipment.
Modern-Day Excellence
In 1995, Consew entered a new chapter under the leadership of Murray Feit. His vision for expansion and innovation led to the incorporation of several sister organizations, strengthening the company’s position in the market. Consew’s product offerings now include one of the largest selections of equipment and parts for sewing, cutting, pressing and embroidery in the industry.
Today, Consew machines are used worldwide by industries ranging from upholstery and auto interiors to apparel and technical textiles. While the market has evolved, Consew has remained steadfast in its commitment to quality and reliability, securing its place as a leader in the sewing machine industry.
Consew’s legacy is not just about its equipment but about the people who have built and sustained the company over generations. From its humble beginnings to its current global presence, Consew’s story is one of innovation, resilience, and dedication to the apparel industry.
